Oxidative stress associated insulin resistance

Several studies have indicated association of oxidative stress with insulin resistance, β-cell dysfunction, impaired glucose tolerance, and the development of type 2 diabetes.

In a recent publication Park et al. (Diabetes Care 2009 Epub Apr 23) studied the correlations of the oxidative stress markers F2-isoprostanes and oxidized LDL, with insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). They found positive associations between both markers and insulin resistance. The association with oxidized LDL was independent of obesity, whereas F2-isoprostanes was not.
