Adult-onset obesity is known to lead to metabolic disturbance, increasing the risk for diseases such as type 2 diabetes (T2D). It is thought that those people who have grown up under conditions of nutritional thrift, but who then are surrounded by nutritional excess as an adult, are at even greater risk of T2D.
