4.4 Associated Conditions and Relevant Biomarkers
Unfortunately, the negative health consequences of obesity are numerous and range from tolerable to life-threatening conditions. The following is a short list of obesity-related comorbidities and biomarkers that have been shown to be dysregulated in the presence of these conditions.
*In a clinical study published in 2008, metabolically obese, normal weight individuals (see “Obesity-At-A-Glance” section) were found to have an unfavorable adipokine profile, with low levels of adiponectin and high levels of leptin. In addition, these subjects had higher concentrations of oxLDL when compared with their pair-matched controls. (1)
